Bagmati Small Hydropower Project (32MW)
Hydraulic design is carried out for the rehabilitation and addition of a new unit in the headworks components. Moreover, suitable recommendations are made for powerhouse protection works based on results obtained from the HEC-RAS model.
Major features:
Design Discharge 18.6m3/sec, Gross head 213m, Plant Capacity 32MW
The rehabilitation of headworks components includes the addition of gravel traps for trapping sediment particles of size 5mm or greater. A hopper-type gravel trap with a sediment flushing culvert is provided. The gravel trap outlet branches into the three approach culverts leading to hopper-type conventional settling basin bays. The new approach culvert takes 6 m3/s discharge to the added settling basin bay. A settling basin inlet gate is provided to control the flow into the new bay. The new settling basin bay is added on the hillside at the right bank of the Bagmati River. The new settling basin bay sits parallel to the old bays, and its flushing culvert passes over the headrace culvert and discharges into the river.
